MetroCard Majority!

It’s working! 31 New York City Councilmembers — well over a majority — have now signed the letter calling on Mayor Bloomberg to add funding for Student MetroCards to next year’s NYC budget. (Click here for the full list of signers.)

More than 5,000 of you have petitioned your Councilmembers to sign the letter to the Mayor — and on Thursday, students from the Urban Youth Collaborative delivered your petitions to City Hall.

We’re making an impact, but we can’t stop yet. Mayor Bloomberg still hasn’t said he’ll put Student MetroCard funding in the budget — but it won’t be rolled out until early May, so we have a few more days to put the pressure on.

We’re setting a new petition goal of 10,000 signatures — can you help us reach it by asking everyone you know to sign?

Mayor Bloomberg’s 2011 City Budget has to be approved by the City Council before it goes into effect — and over half of the Council has now told the Mayor that his budget MUST include more funding for Student MetroCards.

That means our pressure is working. And the more Councilmembers we bring on board, the stronger our message becomes — so let’s keep the petition going. Help us reach 10,000 signatures in support of Student MetroCards by sharing this with everyone you know.
