Sen. Joe Lieberman is holding healthcare reform hostage – and now our own Sen. Chuck Schumer is the hostage negotiator.
Lieberman and other conservative Senators are threatening to filibuster any Senate healthcare bill that would set up a real “public option.” Sen. Schumer, after months of championing the public option, has joined a group of 10 Democratic Senators shaping a “compromise” to break the logjam.
We’ve come too far and worked too hard to watch Lieberman and co. water down healthcare reform. As New Yorkers, it’s up to us to make sure Sen. Schumer stands strong to save real reform. Can you sign our petition to Sen. Schumer?

If Schumer sticks to his guns, he can protect the public option and real healthcare reform. Joe Lieberman is helping insurance lobbyists hold up one of the most important pieces of legislation in our generation. He’s blocking the majority of Senators – and the vast majority of Americans – who want to do the right thing.
A strong public option – a public health insurance plan that competes with private insurance companies – would be one of the most effective ways to force insurers to start treating patients fairly and reigning in outrageous expenses. Sen. Schumer has been the public option’s biggest advocate. Now he has to hang tough — and it’s our job as New Yorkers to make sure he does.
