Emergency Petition to the MTA: Stop the Cuts

This Wednesday, the MTA will vote on drastic service cuts–

Longer delays for subways, buses, and commuter lines.  2 Subway lines (the W and Z) could be eliminated. 50 bus lines canceled or shrunk.  And free fare for hundreds of thousands of public school students gone.1

All this after New Yorkers paid fare hikes earlier this year so cutbacks could be avoided. It’s outrageous.

We’re launching an emergency petition to stop the MTA service cuts — please sign on and then send this far and wide. We’ve only got 48 hours to make sure it’s clear the public opposes this plan. Sign here:

The petition says: “The MTA should use its available funds, not cut services millions of New Yorkers depend on.”

The worst part? Transit experts say much of the cuts aren’t necessary. The proposed cuts can be stopped if the MTA uses available stimulus and reserve funds to close the gap.2

With the city’s population growing, and the threat of climate change rising, we need more public transportation, not less.

Working Families Party supporters fought to stop transit cuts and fare hikes last Spring, and we won new funding in Albany that stopped the worst of the damage. But now the cuts are back on the table, and we only have two days to stop them.

Can you add your name to our emergency petition?
