Row E in the City

As a former New York City mayor might have asked, “How are we doing?” Not bad, folks.

Our top vote getters were Bill de Blasio and John Liu, who secured similar Row E totals: 44,993 (5.14%) and 43,819 (4.78%) respectively. Bill Thompson, who lost by a much smaller margin than many expected, received 27,176 (2.47%) of his votes on our line.

The totals for de Blasio and Liu break our previous record for the highest number of WFP ballot line votes in a city-wide race. In 2005 our best city-wide showing was 5.4% of the vote; this year it was 6.7% – a 20% increase.

Below are the results of our best city council districts, in terms of the percentage voting on row E.  Mark Winston Griffith and Lynn Schulman ran against incumbents who defeated them in the Democratic primary, which partially explains why they are at the top.

District Candidate Number Percentage of total
CC 36 Winston-Griffith 5331 32%
CC 29 Schulman 2697 15%
CC 33 Levin 2411 13%
CC 39 Lander 2,616 12%
CC 2 Mendez 1788 8%
CC 3 Quinn 1964 8%
CC 8 Mark-Viverito 1259 8%
CC 38 Gonzalez 802 8%
CC 6 Brewer 1925 6%
