Ever Needed a Sick Day?

According to a disturbing new study, nearly half the people reading this email don’t get any paid sick days on the job.1

1.8 million New Yorkers – 48% of the city’s workforce – can’t take time off from work when they’re sick without losing their pay (or even their jobs).

If you’re one of them, we want to hear your story – because it could help change the law so you get sickdays, too.

Next Tuesday, the New York City Council is holding ahearing on a Working Families Party-backed bill that would make paid sick days a basic workplace right for every worker in the City.

Thanks to your advocacy, over three fourths of the City Council already supports our bill. But to pass it into law, we need Councilmembers to hear the stories of real New Yorkers who have had to choose between getting healthy and getting paid.

If you’ve ever had a job where you couldn’t take a dayoff when you or a loved one was sick, send us your story.

We’ll present the most compelling accounts at the hearing next week – and you might even get to testify yourself.

Even if you’ve never been in this situation, we’re sure you know people who have. Forward this email to them — the more stories we get, the more impact we will have.

The WFP is part of a fast-growing coalition of public health experts, community groups, small business owners, and women and families’ advocates who have been working all fall to build support for this law.

Next week’s hearings are our chance to be heard.
The experts have statements and statistics, but it’s the stories of real New Yorkers that matter most. Share your story:

Thank you,

Emmanuel, Ademola, and the Paid Sick Days advocacy team
