Letters to Gov. Paterson….

Yesterday evening we asked our folks to write – urgently – to Governor Paterson. It’s vital that he includes the most important issues on the WFP legislative agenda in his invitation for an Extraordinary Session of the state Senate.  What did  the people say?

T.A.: New York: Unemployment and large increases could easily result in me (at age 62) becoming homeless. As a single resident, current laws provide me no assistance.

C.E.: It is extremely important to this straight, married mother of two that same-sex couples are granted the same rights to marriage by this great state as I have enjoyed for nearly 24 years.

R.A.: Please make sure something positive is done for the tenants of NYC, or is the government only working for the landlords?

D.G.: My rent is 80% of my monthly income, and still rising, even as my wages are holding steady because of the weakened economy. I am not alone in this! We need your help!

R.L.: We will be watching to see what you make of your governorship. Campaign finance reform will make passing all the other bills more likely.

K.C.: Please make sure that the issues important to working families in New York are included, especially affordable housing and stronger pro-tenant rent laws.

Y.M.: The carnival that has been going on needs to be reined in. They need to pass bills that are vital to the lives of New Yorkers. I am a mother.

We also heard some friendly voices asking that we include the domestic and farm workers rights bills, which we did. Sorry for letting that slip!

Thanks to everyone who  took the time to write a letter to the Governor, and especially for adding a personal note about the issue most important to you.
