NY Times (Manny Fernandez): For A.I.G. Executives, Here Comes the Tour Bus
The bus pulled up at a quiet intersection on Saturday, just another chilly afternoon here in one of the wealthiest counties in America, where the median household income is $78,353 and where, a short walk up the street, an A.I.G executive lives. A pastor whose sister-in-law is facing foreclosure, a recently laid off worker at a steel mill and a few of their colleagues walked up the residential street. A national and international press corps numbering about 50 hovered around them..One organizer called it “Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous” – a bus tour of the Connecticut homes of two A.I.G. executives. It was organized by the Connecticut Working Families Party, a coalition of labor and community groups, and it drew about 40 activists. The people on the bus were angry that the company, which has received nearly $200 billion in federal bailout funds, gave bonuses to employees in the very unit that had nearly destroyed the insurance giant. For the most part, those who got off the bus and approached the homes of the executives kept their anger in check.
