The Working Families Party is committed to safe, affordable housing for all New Yorkers. This year, we join a broad campaign of over 100 housing justice groups, religious congregations and labor unions in calling for the repeal of vacancy decontrol.
Affordable housing is crucial for the future of New York. With over 1 million households in New York City and suburban counties, rent regulation is the state’s largest affordable housing program. Vacancy decontrol threatens rent regulation and affordable housing. Through vacancy decontrol, landlords can take vacant apartments out of rent-regulation. This fuels skyrocketing rents, leaves tenants without protection, and leaves future generations without adequate affordable housing.
Join the Working Families Party and the thousands who have already joined in the effort to repeal vacancy decontrol by signing our petition. New York City’s rent laws are controlled by Albany. The repeal of vacancy decontrol passed in the Assembly as A2005 on February 2, 2009. Now it’s up to the Senate and the Governor to carry repeal through and save the affordable housing of New York City, Westchester, Rockland, and Nassau Counties.
