The Working Families Party released today the following statement on Mayor Bloomberg’s budget address. It can be attributed to Dan Cantor, Working Families Party Executive Director:
“The catastrophic budget picture presented by Mayor Bloomberg today shows again the desperate need to ask the wealthiest New Yorkers to contribute their fair share in taxes to help ease the fiscal crisis facing both the city and the state.
If layoffs and cuts to critical programs New Yorkers rely on are inevitable, true shared sacrifice means the richest New Yorkers—who have enjoyed tax cut after tax cut—must also do their part.”
The Working Families Party’s Fair Share Tax Reform proposal would raise nearly $6 billion in badly needed revenue by raising income taxes on the wealthy to match the tax rates of states like California and New Jersey. Details on the plan are available here:
