WFP Congratulates Parker’s Reelection Win

Party Plays Big Role as Progressive Senator is Sent Back to Albany

For Immediate Release: September 9, 2008

Brooklyn - The Working Families Party (WFP) cheered today Senator Kevin Parker’s reelection victory, calling the “progressive champion” a needed voice for reform in Albany.

“This is a story where the good guys win. Big money can’t beat a progressive who puts working families first. In just four short years, Kevin Parker has already become one of New York’s most important progressive voices,” said Dan Cantor, WFP Executive Director.  “There’s too much work to be done, too many fights ahead for affordable housing, healthcare for all, and fair funding for public schools for Kevin to stop now, and voters in Brooklyn know it.”

“I’m proud to have had the Working Families Party’s help in this race, and I’m overjoyed that our campaign to win fair education funding for New York City and expand affordable housing was successful,” said Senator Parker. “The WFP helped me engage thousands of voters and energize hundreds of volunteers, and I can’t wait to get to Albany to keep fighting for Brooklyn.”

The Working Families Party played a leadership role in the Parker campaign’s field operation and helped devise campaign strategy. Over the course of the campaign, WFP canvassers, members, and volunteers, knocked on over 30,000 doors across the district, and deployed over 50 people on Primary Day to help Sen. Parker win.

The WFP received 155,184 votes for Eliot Spitzer in 2006 on its ballot line - “Row E.”
